What is a BIN?
A BIN (Bank Identification Number), also called IIN, is the first 6 to 8 digits of a payment card number. It identifies the card scheme and the bank that issued the card.
What does a BIN lookup show?
A BIN check returns the card scheme (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UnionPay, JCB, MIR and others), card type (debit, credit, prepaid), card level, issuing bank, its website and the issuing country.
Is the BIN checker free?
Yes. Single lookups, bulk checks of up to 200 BINs and CSV export are free and need no registration.
Why do merchants check BINs?
Merchants and payment teams use BIN lookups to prevent fraud, verify that the card country matches the customer, route payments and apply the right fees.
Is it safe to enter a BIN?
Yes. A BIN is only the first digits of a card and cannot be used to make payments. Never enter a full card number, expiry date or CVV.
